In the Spirit of the Season: Servant Leadership and Giving Back

Updated: Dec 23, 2021

This holiday season, we’d like to thank all of our customers for their dedication and commitment in working towards the greater good for our fellow Americans and protecting the freedoms of people across the world who cannot.

As our federal clients and Govvie friends know, federal law prohibits our company from showing our gratitude in the form of gifts to government employees. This year we thought we’d try something different. In honor of all of our customers, the Parts Life, Inc. Family of Companies have made donations to several local and national organizations, dedicated to serving the military community and beyond.

The organization we chose this year is Soldiers’ Angels, a non-profit organization dedicated to provide aid, comfort and resources to ensure military members, veterans, and their families have access to needed community resources and support. In addition to providing monetary support to Soldiers’ Angels, members of the PLI team volunteered to support Wreaths Across America, a non-profit organization that holds wreath laying ceremonies for service members across 2,500 national cemeteries on December 18th, 2021. Wreaths Across America’s mission is remember the fallen, honor those who have served, and teach children the value of freedom.

The foundation of servant leadership and giving back runs deep within our company’s roots. For the last 6 years, the Parts Life, Inc. Family of Companies have provided a holiday meal, gifts and groceries to the women and children of Catholic Social Services Visitation Homes in Philadelphia. Team members from Parts Life, Inc., DeVal Lifecycle Support and LC Engineers provided individual gifts for the children and mothers residing there, as well as groceries and supplies for the families. Visitation Homes provides a fresh start for families in the Philadelphia area. Visitation Homes, a ministry of Philadelphia-based Catholic Social Services, provides affordable housing for women who are transitioning from homelessness to independent living. With 20 units for mothers and their children to stay in while they begin the journey to self-sufficiency, Visitation Homes provides assistance to help the women work toward financial independence through employment, job training, and education.

Another annual drive continues to support the Sunday Breakfast Mission, a local organization in Philadelphia. Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission was established with a simple goal in mind: to serve breakfast every Sunday to Philadelphia’s poor and homeless while sharing with them the love of Jesus Christ. Since the Mission’s founding in 1878, Sunday Breakfast has grown to be the largest emergency homeless shelter in Philadelphia, and the only provider of the three free meals a day, 365 days a year to homeless men, women, and children.

The Parts Life Inc. Family of Companies believes in the power of servant leadership and giving back throughout the year. While serving the warfighter and the U.S. taxpayer is our primary mission, our commitment goes far beyond the needs of our valued customers. PLI plays a major role in the local community— From our CEO to our interns, every team member understands the importance of giving back by empowering today’s youth and reaching out to those in need in our local community and beyond.

“‘There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say,’ returned the nephew. ‘Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round—apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!‘” Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol.
