At the Parts Life, Inc. Family of Companies, we believe in the power of servant leadership and giving back all year round. While serving the warfighter and U.S. taxpayer is our primary mission, our commitment to our communities extends beyond meeting the needs of our valued customers. From our CEO to our hard-working interns, every member of our team understands the importance of empowering others around them and helping those in need within our community and beyond.
For the past nine years, the Parts Life, Inc. Family of Companies have provided a holiday meal, gifts, and groceries to the women and children at Catholic Social Services Visitation Homes in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Visitation Homes, a ministry of Catholic Social Services, offers affordable housing for women transitioning from homelessness to independent living. With 20 units available for mothers and their children, the program helps women work towards financial independence through employment, job training, and education. Every year, the PLI and DeVal teams travel to Kensington to personally donate gifts to families, as well as serving a warm holiday meal to the single mothers and children.
We’re also proud to support education and technical skills for students in the Philadelphia region. DeVal Lifecycle Support’s involvement with Ben Franklin High School’s Advanced Manufacturing Center marks a significant step in enhancing the educational landscape, with our support through mentorship and contributions helps enrich the learning experience for students interested in manufacturing. We were also able to contribute to Esperanza Academy Charter School to expand their robotics program. The funds will be used to support the equipment needs for two competitive teams to represent Esperanza in robotics competitions against other schools – providing an important opportunity for students to exercise their STEM education. This exposure and skill development will grow the visibility and enthusiasm for the youth Esperanza serves each year.
This year, our care team collaborated with Presto Tape ’s care team in volunteering at their Meals of Hope packaging event. Meals of Hope is a program designed to address urgent food needs for local communities that are economical and nutritious. Over 80 volunteers, including Presto Tape employees, friends, and family, helped assemble 36,504 meal kits for those with food insecurities
We also continued our partnership with the Food Bank of South Jersey , through financial contributions and participating the annual Hunger Games event. Team members from Parts Life Inc and DeVal stepped up to showcase their commitment to making a difference with all the proceeds being used to benefit the Food Bank’s hunger-relief programs.
We also were able to continue our contributions in STEM and the advancement of aerospace and aviation for the next generation. For the past 5th year, our team is proud to support of Girls in Aviation Day, hosted by Aviation Influence, Inc. . Girls in Aviation’s mission is to elevate interest, engagement, and enthusiasm of youth through hands-on STEM and aviation outreach locally and in underrepresented communities. Our team also participated in the second annual iStream Aviation Day at Rowan College at Burlington County. The day featured presentations and workshops for kids ages 10 and up, giving them an opportunity to learn more about careers in aviation. Our team hosted a hands on workshop using paper airplanes to teach students about the process of design engineering and innovation in aerospace and defense.
Other activities included STEM and student support at Rowan University and Rowan College at Burlington County throughout the year. Recognizing the importance of continuing to build a skilled workforce for the defense industrial base to thrive, our team took the time to interact with STEM students and provide them with a meal and advice for their schooling and impending careers.
In collaboration with NSWCPD, Women In Defense (WID) Liberty Chapter , and Temple University we were able to be apart of the SeaPearch Challenge, involving middle and high school students in designing, building, and testing ROVs to navigate through water courses. Both events were aimed at sparking interest in STEM careers by providing a platform for innovation and problem-solving. Parts Life, Inc.’s support for these initiatives highlights our dedication to fostering technical skills and nurturing young talent within the community.
The Parts Life team also continued our partnership with Wreaths Across America , proving aid to help unbox and prepare the wreaths that were placed at the Beverly National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization that is committed to teaching younger generations about the value of their freedoms, and the importance of honoring those who sacrificed so much to protect those freedoms. One of the many ways they accomplish this is by holding wreath-laying ceremonies for veterans across 2500 national cemeteries, including the Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey. Established in 1846, the Beverly National Cemetery is the home to over 49,000 veterans and family members and includes veterans from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II, and the Vietnam War.
This year we participated in conjunction with Philabundance charity with a canned food drive, who through those donations can make the difference of people in the Greater Philadelphia Region. Philabundance was able to produce 400,000 meals for the area supporting seniors, shelters, and community centers, along with 52 million pounds of food that was also delivered to these areas. Parts Life and DeVal also collected Halloween candy for the Soldiers’ Angels organization and their Treats for Troops Program. The Treats for Troops program collect and distributes candy to local VA hospitals and deployed service members, and we are honored to serve as an official drop-off site. We are grateful for the opportunity to support this meaningful program and bring some cheer to those who are serving or have served our country.
In response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, the Parts Life Inc Family of Companies made a charitable donation to Convoy of Hope, an organization known for providing immediate disaster relief to those affected by natural disasters. As a company grounded in Christian values, we believe strongly in the call for us to love our neighbors and serve those in need, especially in times of crisis. Our faith teaches that we should act with compassion, and through our contribution, we were able to answer the call and extend a hand. Convoy of Hope was able to use the funds to deliver essential supplies such as food, water, hygiene items, and other critical resources to those impacted by the hurricane.
This year we also celebrated the DeVal Lifecycle Support 70th Anniversary, which was capped by the opening of our new facility, made possible by the hard work and dedication of our DeVal Legacy Team. With over 300 years of collective DeVal knowledge between them, the legacy team is dedicated to passing along the knowledge they’ve gained over the years to future leaders and team members. Since 2017, DeVal has achieved a 400% increase in employee growth in our HUBZone Community, a testament to our dedication to our people and providing opportunities for learning and development. With the opening of our new building, we are projected to increase by 30% growth, enhancing our capacity to innovate and creating meaningful skilled work opportunities in the Philadelphia community.
Parts Life Inc and the SamT Network are also proud to help build local community sports programs by sponsoring the Burlington Falcon cricket team, a group of local cricketers who have been playing for two seasons in Florence, NJ Cricket League. Our companies also provide support to the Philadelphia Barons, during their first season in the PIHA Roller Hockey League.
Finally, our company supports the SamT Foundation. The SamT Foundation was started by PLI president and CEO Sam Thevanayagam in 2017, with the goal of empowering underprivileged young adults with leadership and life skills necessary to success in a fast-changing world. Using the game of cricket to connect with these youth, the Micah Cricket Club was started to bring practical leadership skills along with the word of Jesus Christ to underprivileged youth in Southeast Asia and other cricket playing countries. The MCC has established its roots in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. In the Southeast Asia region, the MCC has grown exponentially through the years supporting over 15 locations, impacting 500 students.
From all of us at the Parts Life, Inc. Family of Companies, we thank our customers, suppliers, employees, and everyone in between who have helped make this year a success. Without your support, we would not be able to carry forward the good works that we were created in God’s image to do. Thank you, we wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a prosperous New Year.
